Ariel: Tell us about yourself and your writing journey.

Sarah Bale:  … I've become a USA Today Bestselling Author and wrote over 60+ books. I was first published by Ellora's Cave in 2013… but didn't get serious about it until 2017. After they went out of business, I decided to self-publish. I have 60+ books under this name."

When I was 17, I tried out with my best friend to be a pro-wrestler (think WWE, lol) Needless to say, my career as a pro-wrestler lasted one day, but it's still a great story to tell.

I've always loved writing and making up stories. My first story was a Casper fanfic ('Can I keep you?'. COME ON. That was the best line in a movie ever! Of course I had to write my own version, starring myself!)"

Do you have any author role models or literary influences who shaped your writing?

Sarah: "As a kid I was a huge Laura Ingalls Wilder fan. I think Gena Showalter and PC Cast were the first romance authors that I met in person, and I was def fangirling over them. I admire Sara Cate and SJ Tilly, too."

I go in without a structured outline. I know how the book is going to start and end, but the rest is a surprise to me.

What does your writing process look like?

Sarah: "I'm a pantser, which means I go in without a structured outline. I know how the book is going to start and end, but the rest is a surprise to me. On a daily average, I try to hit 2k or higher. And the only time you'll find me doing research for my book is if I'm procrastinating, lol.

I'm a night writer, usually, but I can write anywhere. I thrive on background noise, so I have music playing or the TV on in the background. I usually write in my office, in the living room, or at Panera Bread.

If I hit a block, I tend to work on another book. I know it's weird and probably doesn't make sense, but it helps me get out of my head and still be productive at the same time."

What advice do you have about editors and for growing authors?

Sarah: "I've known my editor for years and it was just a good fit. When trying to find one, I'd say just do your research. Reach out to other clients to see if they're satisfied, etc.

"The biggest advice would be that everyone's journey is different. What works for me might not work for you, and that's perfectly normal. Just keep on reaching for the stars!"

Your book covers are eye-catching. What's your process for developing them?

Sarah: "I work with talented cover designers. We usually have a chat before they start designing, and make sure we're on the same page and go from there."

Have you participated in any writing contests?

Sarah: "The Heart Awards is the only contest I've entered, and I've had a blast both times."

What are you reading, and who are your favorite authors?

Sarah: "The Cock Down the Block by Amy Award.

I love dark romances. When I need a break, I enjoy alien romances, too. My auto-buy authors are Sara Cate, Katherine L. Evans, and Nicole Fox.

I would recommend Diomere's Exile by Sabrina A. Fish."

What are your thoughts on OKRWG's RomanceLahoma conference?

Sarah: "I love RomanceLahoma! It's one of the best conferences I've been too. Very warm and inviting. I also love the networking!"
